About the Studio

A Home Studio in Chester County

Sketchbooks and paintings spread across the studio table

Maggie Summers is a surface designer and botanical painter working from a home studio in Chester County, Pennsylvania — just outside Philadelphia, in the rolling landscape of the Brandywine Valley.

Her work grows from the garden: wallpaper patterns painted from irises, magnolias, and wildflowers; textiles drawn from pressed leaves and late-summer arrangements; custom commissions for clients who believe their walls should feel as alive as the rooms they hold.

Every pattern begins as a painting. Every painting begins in the garden, or at the kitchen table, or standing at the potting bench with a cup of tea and a sketchbook. The work is slow, seasonal, and deeply personal — which is exactly the point.

The Practice

Magnolias wallpaper — hand-painted on indigo

Wallpaper

Hand-painted patterns printed to archival wallpaper. Each commission is a collaboration — the palette, the scale, and the subject drawn from your home, your garden, your life.

Every wallpaper begins as a conversation about the room it will live in. I visit the space, study the light, and paint a series of studies before committing to the final composition. Printed on archival-grade paper in small runs.

Botanical pattern study for textiles

Textiles

Botanical patterns translated to linen, cotton, and silk. Coordinating fabrics for interiors, or standalone pieces for upholstery, curtains, and soft furnishings.

Textile patterns are adapted from the same source paintings as the wallpapers, but reimagined for the drape and weight of fabric. I work with a small mill in Pennsylvania for linen and cotton, and a specialist printer for silk.

Custom Commissions

Bespoke surface design for private clients, interior designers, and architects. Non-repeating murals, site-specific colour-ways, and patterns designed for a single room that exists nowhere else.

Commissions begin with a letter and a conversation. I take on a small number each year — usually three or four — so that each one receives the time and attention it deserves. Timelines vary, but most commissions take three to six months from first conversation to final delivery.

The Moonpetal Press

Together with her husband Joseph — a meditation teacher and writer — Maggie illustrates children’s books under The Moonpetal Press, a small imprint for the enchanted and the young at heart.
